About Me
Who am I?
Who's Fablau?
My name's Fabrizio. I am Italian, but I have been living in Laguna Niguel, California, since 2005. On the planted tank forums, I am known as "fablau". That's my typical username, but most people call me just Fab. Easier to say and remember.
I began playing with planted tanks in 1984. I used to catch fish and plants with my dad in natural streams in northern Italy and watch them grow in a small, 20-gallon tank.
Things have changed a lot after so many years. Technology has evolved, and price for equipment has drastically dropped, making the hobby easier and more affordable for everyone. I can assure you, today I kill many less fish and plants than I used to!
Planted aquariums are my main hobby. For a living, I manage a music publishing company, and my professional background is music and computer programming. That's why I am also behind the popular Nutrient Calculator on rotalabutterfly.com.
In the planted tank world, I am part of Tom Barr's team on the barrreport.com website. I also used to be an active member of plantedtank.net until they banned me for no reason for a month in 2021, and I decided to stop using it because of their bad and unprofessional management practices.
In any case, I have always been very much involved on any planted tanks related ventures for the past 30 years.
What about carnivorous plants? A few years back, my son Edward got a Venus Fly Trap. From there, he became passionate about carnivorous plants, so we got some more plants, and we learned how to grow them very well. As a result, we sometimes have extra plants to give away and sell.
That's pretty much it about me. If you wish to learn more about my professional life, here is the link. If you are interested in learning more about my planted tank passion, here is my journal on the barrreport.com, updated almost every week.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'll be glad to hear from you at any time!
